Highlight white and print on clear substrate
White Printing with our Spot Color Support
Typically, Digital Factory is used for spot color printing on Thermal printers, but new advances in Ink Jet printers now provide the ability to print white on a variety of media as well. This revolutionary new production feature will allow printing of different graphics on dark substrates — great for short run jobs where typically costs are prohibitive because traditional screen printing set up was required. Digital Factory has a unique way in which to support white printing that can be applied in a variety of production environments.
Highlight White
The word “Roland” in this sample has been selected to print with a “highlight” white i.e. “white” ink has been printed wherever a “white” pixel is required in the image — this image has not been “primed” with white and was done with a single pass. Areas under the shadow do not get primed giving the impression the image is “floating” above the substrate.
Priming this image with another RIP would have required a white priming layer to be printed first, then the “Roland” image printed on top, necessitating the image to pass through the printer twice.
Print On Clear Substrate
This watch graphic on clear vinyl shows use of object by object priming. The links in the watchband are separate objects in the graphic and when primed by SignLab, priming ink is placed only under the area where ink for the image is to be applied. The viewer can see through the clear vinyl in the areas between the links making it seem like the watch is floating in the air. Other RIPs cannot do this.
