Installing and configuring Signlab 7.1 on Windows Vista
Description
When installing Signlab 7.1 on Windows Vista certain configurations have to be perfomed to have the software run correctly.
Solution
To install and configure Signlab 7.1 on Windows Vista perform the following:
THREE CAUTIONS!
Do NOT install the USB dongle provided with your SignLab package until AFTER you have installed your SignLab package.
When installing SignLab, ensure that you are logged into Windows with Administrator rights, and SignLab is NOT installed in the Program Files directory.
Some virus scan software will scan when copying files during installation, which slows the process considerably. To minimize installation time, configure the virus scan software to scan files only when creating or modifying a given file.
Step 1 Program Installation
Installing SignLab under Windows Vista is quite similar to installing SignLab under previous Windows operating systems.
1. Insert the SignLab install CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. The Auto Play dialog should open. Click Run setup.exe to continue.
If the install CD does not auto start, then the Run dialog must be used to start the installation process manually.
From the Windows Start button, choose All Programs | Accessories | Run.
The shortcut is the Windows key + r
The Run dialog will open. Click Browse and locate the setup.exe file that is on the CD in the CD-ROM drive.
Click Open to choose the setup.exe file, and click OK to close the Run dialog.
3. During the installation, you will be asked to install various components:
If you are asked to insert a license disk or CD, then insert the license disk or CD that was provided with your package. Verify that the drive path is correct, and click OK to continue.
When asked to install cutter drivers, it is recommended that you install drivers for your cutters at this time. You will be provided with a list of manufacturers and cutters to choose from.
When asked to install fonts, it is recommended that you install fonts at this time. The installer will locate any TrueType fonts that are already installed and make them available for use in SignLab.
4. After the installation is complete, restart Windows.
5. If you were asked to insert a license disk or CD during the install, then eject the disk and store it in your SignLab package.
6. After Windows has been restarted, connect the USB dongle, or the HASP Parallel Port dongle.
7. Proceed to Step 2- Printer Setup.
Step 2 Printer Setup
Now that SignLab has been installed, your computer reset, and the dongle connected, you are ready to install the printer support files.
8. Insert the Printers CD into the CD-ROM drive.
9. From the Windows Start button, choose SignLab | Print and Cut Manager from the All Programs flyout.
10. A setup wizard should begin, where you will be asked to install one-or-more printers from the Printers CD.
11. After the setup wizard is complete, the Print & Cut Manager window will be open and ready to receive print jobs. At this point, choose from the workflows that are presented in the SignLab Installation Manual.
12. If SignLab is required, then please refer to Step 4 SignLab Configuration.
Step 3 Administrator Rights
For other Vista users, the Start button shortcut for the Print and Cut Manager must be assigned administrator rights.
13. From the Windows Start button, locate the Print and Cut Manager shortcut from the All Programs flyout.
14. Right-click the Print and Cut Manager shortcut and choose Properties.
15. The Print and Cut Manager 2.0 Properties dialog will open.
16. On the Shortcut tab, click the Advanced button.
17. Tick the Run as administrator checkbox.
Note: Whenever the Windows Start button is used to launch the Print and Cut Manager, Windows will now post an User Account Control dialog that indicates, An unidentified program wants access to your computer. However, click the Allow button to close this dialog, and the queue will launch as expected.
Step 4 SignLab Configuration
After the printer support files have been installed, you are ready to launch SignLab and send a print and/or cut design.
18. From the Windows Start button, choose SignLab from the All Programs flyout.
19. When SignLab is launched, the Print and Cut Setup Wizard will automatically launch. If you accidentally close this wizard, then it may be reopened by choosing File menu | Print and Cut Setup Wizard.
20. If you have not already configured your printers, then a setup wizard will prompt you to do so at this time. Please refer to Step 2 Printer Setup.
21. Completing the Print and Cut Setup Wizard will configure the Print and Cut Setup dialog.
22. For the workflows in the SignLab Installation Manual, the Print and Cut Setup dialog will be used to confirm that your printer and/or cutter have been configured correctly.
Note: To avoid the User Account Control dialog when launching the Print and Cut Manager, use the File menu | Launch Print and Cut Manager item within SignLab. Alternatively, allow the queue to automatically launch when printing and cutting from SignLab.
