TOPIC: Error communicating with port

Error communicating with port 2 months 3 weeks ago #6189

I have filmmaker v4 installed on two seperate pc's. Both are running windows 7 64 bit. One has an epson 4880 and the other an epson 4900. When we print large files we get the error message "There was an error communicating with the Port." One an older computer that we used to have one of these hooked to we never got this message so I assume it's a setting we missed somewhere. After it times out it'll still print, but will usually mess up the film by duplicating part of it, or leaving a gap. Any idea's on how to resolve this?

It sounds as if the Epson Status Monitor is running and interrupting the data to the printer.

The following instructions may not be exactly the same for your printer, but should be similar.

Disable Epson monitor within the printer driver

Note: This procedure must be applied to EACH Epson printer driver that is within the Windows Control Panel.
From the Windows Control Panel, go Hardware and Sound >> Devices and Printers (i.e., access the list of installed printer drivers on your computer).
For each Epson printer, right-click and choose Printing preferences.
Click the Utility tab.
Click the Speed and Progress button.
Tick the “Disable EPSON Status Monitor 3” option.
Click OK.
A warning dialog will appear. Click OK.
At this point, the icons for Monitoring Preferences will be disabled (i.e., grayed out).

We tried this fix and it did not work. I have two printers installed that are both Epson 4880 one is labeled Epson 4880 separation. The other however was the one that had the utility tab should that make a difference?

The printer named Separation is the printer from FilmMaker, you have chosen the right one to amend. Did you uncheck the option Disable Epson Status Monitor3?
