TOPIC: Open SVG with correct font

Open SVG with correct font 1 year 5 months ago #4976

I have an SVG file using a certain font.
I can open it in various browsers and other programs like Adobe Illustrator, Open Office, GiMP, Inkscape, Image Viewer etc. They all show the font correctly.

But SignLab always just shows it as an Arial.

SVG is a pretty simply format. A text with a certain font is written like this:

<text font-family="My Font Name" x="0" y="0" font-size="30">Hello there</text>

So, if the machine you open the file on has "My Font Name" installed, it should open fine.

I have tried many different things in this quest to get the SVG to open correctly.

I have of course made sure the font is installed on the machine, and also in SignLab.

I have also tried embedding the font as a base64 encoded data-uri in various formats (woff, ttf, eot, svg), and have also tried embedding the font as SVG-XML.

SignLab just keeps refusing to show the correct font.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Thanks

What is the version and build number of SignLab? You can find this under Help > About SignLab. Then press the letter 'r' on the keyboard for the build number.

We're using version 9.1 Revision 1
Production date April 10th 2015 14:11:06
Revision Build 13895M

Primary version 9
Secondary version 1
Produced 08

Because it isn't working with the font, I tried converting my font to paths. Looks great in the browser and other viewers, but each letter becomes very edgy in SignLab.

What program created the svg file?
We are concentrating on InkScape.

Well, an SVG is just XML, so I can just paste it here:
<?xml version="1.0" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd">
<svg width="600" height="400" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg">
<circle cx="100" cy="50" r="40" stroke="black" stroke-width="2" fill="red"/>
<text x="0" y="150" font-family="Tahoma" font-size="55">Hello. This is Tahoma!</text>
</svg>

What you see is that I'm setting the font-family to be Tahoma. And Adobe Illustrator and other programs accepts this fine. But SignLab says it's an Arial.

You can copy'n'paste the code into Notepad and save it as an SVG to test.

Thanks for helping.

You are correct. I have fixed the bug.
Send me an email at the address I posted above so that I can reply to it with an attachment.
I can send you a new svg import filter as a zip file.
