TOPIC: [SOLVED] Signlab turning vectors JAGGED!

[SOLVED] Signlab turning vectors JAGGED! 1 year 2 weeks ago #5295

I seem to be experiencing some kind of corruption in my .cdl files that is causing jagged edges on my vectors. I have been unable to determine exactly WHEN this happens (my most recent thought is that it must be upon saving or opening the file), but in many of my files now Signlab has taken my perfect vectors and completely mangled them. Once this happens to a file, I have been unable to undo the damage.

Today I created a new .cdl file from scratch. I drew some shapes, changed some colors, imported some .eps and .ai vector files, arrayed and grouped some objects, added a shadow, added a transparency, and duplicated some objects (to keep several revisions of the design.) I did not apply any complex filters or rasterize anything. After saving, closing, and opening the file several times, I noticed this nasty issue yet again as I was preparing to export a proof to pdf.

Perfectly straight lines seem to be unaffected, but any shape with any curve at all to it is experiencing this issue where they are being turned very jagged. It's sometimes only noticeable upon zooming way in, but is obvious upon printing or cutting anything.

In this most recent file I created, the jagged lines affected all objects in the file. It even turned text that has not even been converted to a graphic into (still editable) text with jagged lines. Even crazier is that now that this file is corrupted, even new text that is input is affected in real time as I type it in. The size of the text also affects how extreme the jagged edges are. (The smaller I scale the text, the more jagged the lines.)

I can not make any sense of this. This is ruining hours of work and causing me extreme frustration. I have searched for anyone else having a similar issue but have not turned up any results.

If anyone has any idea what could be causing this issue, please let me know. As of right now I'm very frustrated and disappointed.

Thanks in advance.

If you look at the rulers in the screen shots, the units are inches and the value shows as about 29040, this means you are working about 1/2 a mile from the origin point in Signlab, this is causing the problem with the vectors. If you select all objects and type 0 in the fields X: & Y: it will move them all closer the the 0,0 origin and should solve the problem.

That fixed it, rayw. Thank you so much! I'm thrilled that I don't have to recreate all these files.

That seems like an odd thing for the software to do. Is that by design, or is it a bug? I kind of feel like this software has been abandoned as far as future development is concerned. No 64-bit support, no multithreading support to take advantage of multiple core CPUs, no ability to offload any work to the GPU, etc. These are all features that have been standard in other design programs for over 5 years. Do you happen to have any information on future developments?

Regardless, thank you very much for solving that issue for me.

I'm told 64 bit is coming, I do not have much more info or a time frame yet.

Ray is the 64 bit going to be an update to Signlab 9.1?
Or is it gonna be an expensive upgrade?
Just everything is now 64 bit (and has been for a while) so that machines run larger amount of memory and multi cores.
