Hello

I just got my signlab 10 going and I have been use to moving objects front and back by the key commands for over 16 years and I was doing a project that was to lay a layout on top of a picture. when I made the graphics and move them to the front it wouldn't go to the front of the picture or the picture wouldn't go to the back. Will I always have to use the layers on this or can I turn that part off to make it when act like signlab did before.

I also try to send a PDF out to use for email and anything from a simple black square to more it pops up with "Illegal Function Error", How do we fix this to send out PDF files

Thanks for the help

Hi Luca, When you press ctrl+f to move an object to the front the object will move to the front of it's layer, if there is another layer present then the layer viewer will automatically come into view, you can then move the layer to the front, or merge all layers and use the Ctrl+F to bring the object to the front.

under the Support & Training heading above there are two video's explaining the usage of Layers in Signlab 10.

The PDF error is proving a bit more challenging to resolve. On the installer DVD for Signlab 10 are a number of files named VCredist..., right click each of these in turn and chose Run as Administrator, when asked either install or repair for each.
This may resolve the issue for you.

So, is there a way to disable the automatic pop-up of the layer viewer? I watched the 2 videos referenced above, and didn't see that mentioned.

After using SL for 10 years, my workflow really doesn't include layers in the way that Cadlink now wants to implement them. I'd prefer to continue using my workflow as it works well for my needs. Using the basic order commands activates the layer viewer and just slows everything down. I'd really like to disable it with the ability to enable it when I choose to as opposed to when the program thinks I need it.

Thanks for your help.

If your Signlab 10 is up to date, you can go to Options > Signlab Setup > General preferences, there is a check box to Always Merge Sheet Layers.
This will merge the layers on any files you open or import thereafter.
Close and re-open Signlab to make sure it is retained.
