TOPIC: Trouble with the CutContour swatch

Trouble with the CutContour swatch 5 months 2 weeks ago #6564

I'm having a troublesome issue where colors are being changed by Signlab to have the name CutContour. As you can imagine this is frustrating because it's not always easy or obvious to tell in the rip that a color's missing especially when you're in a hurry or loading a bunch of files at once.

Is there a reason this could happen? So far it has normally been happening to black colors but today it happened to a white swatch. I have a suspicion it has to do with using those colors as contour cutting colors but at least two of the times it's happened that hasn't been the case or at least it's not as straight forward as that. The attached pics illustrate such a case. Any insight would be appreciated.

in this file only the shield has been affected. It's swatch was previously just the unnamed RGB Black swatch from the default palette. Now it has been given the CutContour name.

Swatch properties of offending color.

This is the black object next to it. I can't be sure but I believe these two were previously the same color swatch.

The ContourCut colour name is added when the colour is used as a colour for a contourcut line and the job is sent to VPM. I have made a few tests and have not had any colour changes on other objects using the same original colour.

That said, if the contourcut black colour has the same colour values as the original black colour the print should be the same regardless of colour name. Although it might cause issues if you are cutting using Cut by Colour.

The problem is versaworks treats it as only a contour cut so it doesn't print the shape at all.

The only check I can think of to make before you end to versaworks is to look for SF Black colour in the Job palette at the right of the screen, if it shows just drop the regular RGB black on top of the SF Black in the job palette and it will replace that colour for all objects in the job.

Ah ok so it'll always be an SF swatch. BTW what do the letters stand for we have P, SC, and sometimes SF?

Also after asking my boss who mainly is the one encountering this issue I think it happens when he imports an old file in and it updates the current palette to add all the colors from the imported file. That may help root out the bug.

P = process colour - can be rgb or cmyk
SC= Spot colour - This is a named colour, can be rgb, cmyk, LAB or HLS colourspace
SF= Spot Foil - these colours were originally used for the Gerber Edge and Summa DC printers. These colours will become redundant in future builds.
