TOPIC: Summa and Die cuts

Summa and Die cuts 5 months 1 week ago #6578

Hello

I have a new Summa S2D160. Im playing around with trying to cut a sticker then have it half cut around it. In the cut preview it dosen't recognize the half cut line as that and try some different settings on the cutter and it just cuts through on both and it will cut the half cut first. Wondering if there is any help on this or if this is possible to do

The Half Cut will only work through Visual Production Manager.
Create your job with contour and halfcut lines as necessary.
Send the job to VPM.
When you cut the job, it should make the contour cut first and then the halfcut (Flex Cut) second.

One piece of advice I have been given for this is that the media will lose it's integrity as more and more of the cutting is made, and this can result in the media becoming screwed up rather than cutting. It happens because greater force and drag are created by the halfcut. So before you feed the material into the cutter, apply application tape to the paper side of the materialthen when you setup the cutter for cutting make sure it is cutting through the backing paper but not through the application tape, the media should then keep its integrity throughout the cut.

OK so I print out of ONYX to my HP Latex Printer and been trying to get it to do the Flex cut out of there and it wont recognize the flex cut line and I've tried to rename it spot color it and everything and it wont recognize it at all just as a line. Is this only something you can use in VPM or how can I export that via EPS to Onyx.

Via Onyx, you would possibly have to make it a solid line, so create the Halfcut, then use Cut > Countourcut on/off, then use the clear colour for the fill and use a hairline with colour. The hairline will probably need to be a spot colour with the name that Onyx recognises for Halfcutting.
